Center for a New Orange County
To Foster Public-Private Alliances, Continued

Forum Sponsored By

“If we engage the public, we have a good chance of moving forward in a positive way,” Orange County Business Council President Stan Oftelie told participants.

At the leadership forum, participants made suggestions on how to improve the concept. Among them were inviting a member of the Orange County Grand Jury to participate at the Center, vigorously encouraging involvement from individual citizens instead of only citizen associations and selecting a particular group to be a “vehicle” for particular issues.

Organizers hope to capitalize on Monday’s show of support by focusing on “formal buy-in” from major public and private groups over the next 60 days. Entities such as the Orange County Business Council, the Orange County Board of Supervisors and others will soon consider whether to “buy-in.”

“The deep mistrust of government is the most difficult aspect of making the Center for a New Orange County a success,” Oftelie said. “Yet we firmly believe that it is an opportunity to do good things together.”
